Wrist sprain
imagine that you have a wrist sprain. All it takes is a momentary loss
of balance. As you fall, you automatically stick your hand to the ground, but
the force of impact bends it back toward your arm. This can stretch the
ligaments that connect the wrist and hand bones a little too far. A wrist
sprain causes pain, swelling, maybe warmth around the wrist, bruising,
weakness, etc. If you have a wrist sprain or you know someone who has it, the
treatment to follow is to rest for 48 hours, ice the wrist to reduce pain about
20 minutes daily, and compress the wrist with a bandage. Although it is
difficult to prevent a wrist sprain, there are two things to consider: always
use caution when walking or running on wet or slippery surfaces. Try to resist
the urge to put out your hand(s) during a fall.
